Universally recognised as by far the most authoritative work ever published on the subject, The Birds of Africa is a superb multi-contributor reference work, with encyclopaedic species texts, stunning paintings of all species and numerous subspecies, hundreds of informative line drawings, detailed range maps, and extensive bibliographies. Each volume contains an Introduction that brings the reader up to date with the latest developments in African ornithology, including the evolution and biogeography of African birds. Diagnoses of the families and genera, often with superspecies maps, are followed by the comprehensive species accounts themselves. These include descriptions of range and status, field characters, voice, general habits, food, and breeding habits. Full bibliographies, acoustic references, and indexes complete this scholarly work of reference. This second volume in the series deals comprehensively with the guineafowl, francolins, buttonquails, rails, cranes, finfoot, bustards, jacanas, painted-snipe, Crab Plover, oystercatchers, stilits and avocets, thick-knees, coursers and pratincoles, plovers and lapwings, sandpipers and allies, skuas, gulls, terns, skimmers, auks, sandgrouse and pigeons. The editors and artists have worked closely with other authors - all acknowledged experts in their field - to produce a superb reference in which comprehensive texts on every species are complemented by accurate and detailed paintings and drawings of the birds themselves.

This is volume I of William Henry Hudson's "Argentine Ornithology". It is a comprehensive encyclopedia of the birds native to Argentina, with detailed descriptions, historical information, notes on natural history, and more. This volume will appeal to modern readers with an interest in ornithology, and it would make for a fantastic addition to collections of allied literature. William Henry Hudson (1841 - 1922) was an Anglo-Argentine naturalist, author, and ornithologist. He was one of the founding members of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, and is best known for his novel "Green Mansions" (1904). Other notable works include "A Crystal Age" (1887) and "Far Away and Long Ago" (1918), which has since been adapted into a film. Contents include: "Fam. I. TURDIDÆ, or THRUSHES", "Fam. II. CINCLIDÆ, or DIPPERS", "Fam. III. MUSCICAPIDÆ, or FLYCATCHERS", "Fam. IV. TROGLODYTIDÆ, or WRENS", "Fam. V. MOTACILLIDÆ, or WAGTAILS", "Fam. VI. MNIOTILTIDÆ, or WOOD-SINGERS", etc. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

Reissue of Aristophanes' most famous plays in the Methuen Classical Greek Dramatists series Aristophanes is the oldest comedic writer in Western literature. Although only eleven of the some forty plays he wrote survive, his unique blend of slapstick, fantasy, bawy and political satire provide us with a vivid picture of the ancient Athenians - their social mores, their beliefs and their exuberant sense of occasion. Wasps is a lawcourt satire, Clouds a lighthearted look at education, Birds a search for the perfect society, Festival Time a feminist trial of Euripides and Frogs a celebration of and debate around the theatre.Aristophanes was a unique writer for the comic stage as well as one of the most revealing about the society for which he wrote.

A person can have many soul mates in a lifetime but, each person has only one twin soul in each life. This belief taught to me by my grandmother is one that has always filled me with wonder. As a young child, she often sat next to me in front of the fire blazing brightly in our tipi and spoke of the legend of the twin souls. The legend is as old as creation itself. It is said that as the creator was making human beings he was surrounded by souls to place in them. The creator decided to take a single soul and split it in half creating twin souls. He then took the two twin souls and touched them together as light as a butterfly’s kiss. The twin souls were then separated and placed respectively into man and woman. The creator lightly touched them together so that when they meet one day, they will recognize the other’s soul as their twin. This is because they have already met at the beginning of creation and will immediately feel as if they have known each other forever. I am “Sumanitu taka kici mani wiya” which means she who walks with the wolf and live with my elderly grandmother, Shetawahki, who is a revered elder and medicine woman of the Lakota Sioux Nation and part of the Roaming Wolf Sioux Tribe.

Louisa May Alcott (November 29, 1832 – March 6, 1888) was an American novelist, short story writer and poet best known as the author of the novel Little Women (1868). Her youngest sister May died in 1879 and Louisa took over the care of her niece nicknamed Lulu, who was named after Louisa and hence the name of this book. “Lulu's Library” is a collection of 33 illustrated children’s short stories originally published in three volumes between 1886–1889. Some of the 33 stories are: A Christmas Dream The Candy Country The Skipping Shoes Cockyloo The Frost King And How The Fairies Conquered Him Lilybell And Thistledown Ripple, The Water Sprite Eva's Visit To Fairyland The Silver Party The Blind Lark Music And Macaroni The Little Red Purse; plus many more. LOUISA MAY ALCOTT is best known as the author of the novel Little Women (1868) and its sequels Little Men (1871) and Jo's Boys (1886). Raised in New England by her transcendentalist parents, Abigail May and Amos Bronson Alcott, she grew up among many of the well-known intellectuals of the day, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. In her later years Alcott suffered chronic health problems, including vertigo. She and her earliest biographers attributed her illness and death to mercury poisoning. During her American Civil War service, Alcott contracted typhoid fever and was treated with a compound containing mercury. Recent analysis of Alcott's illness suggests that her chronic health problems may have been associated with an autoimmune disease, not mercury exposure. However, mercury is a known trigger for autoimmune diseases as well. Be this as it may, even when extremely ill, Alcott was still able to pen these volumes as a memento to her niece, which says a lot about the personality and determination of Alcott herself. ============== KEYWORDS/TAGS: Lulu, Library, Louisa May Alcott, Little Women, May Alcott, Lulu alcott, children’s stories, Christmas, dream, candy, country, naughty jocko, monkey, mischievous, ill booy, skipping shoes, dancing shoes, cockyloo, cockatoo, rosy's journey, rosy, how they ran away, run away, flee, fairy box, elves, elf, folklore, hole, wall, piggy girl, pigs, three frogs, baa baa, sheep, lambs, bleat, frost king, conquer, lilybell, thistledown, ripple, water sprite, eva visit, fairyland, sunshine, brothers, sisters, fairy spring, queen aster, brownie, princess, mermaids, little bud, flower's story, princes, pansies, recollections, childhood, Christmas turkey, silver party, blind lark, music, macaroni, little red purse, sophie, secret, dolly, bedstead, trudel, siege,

The stories within the pages take time forward and out of my early years. This completes those years and moves it forward past the first sixty. The chapters tell of the trials that I faced as the years passed by. It also tells of the largest change in life that I will face in my later years. Over half of the chapters cover this change. Others have said that I do not know what they have gone through when the loss of a spouse happens. They are wrong; they do not know what I have gone through unless they read the story within. Life was passing by with my spouse of thirty-seven years. She spent the last few years in an assisted-living facility. Follow the last days we lived as a couple and the issues I now face as a single man. I am back on my path, walking alone. Life for me takes an unfavorable turn for the worse. Everything changed after the stroke of midnight, on New Year’s Day. I may never recover from this loss, as I look down and see her name etched in stone.
