I remember as a boy of twelve or so, reading a book called "Two Minute Mysteries." It was a collection of very short mystery stories. Each story provided the clues for solving the mystery. I enjoyed running through those pages at light speed, seeing whether my solution matched the author's or, if I didn't have a solution within five minutes or so, anxiously reading through the author's solution. There's just something about mysteries, about puzzles, that kept me hooked. Years later, that book long gone, I have encountered one comparable little book that brought back some of the joys I'd experinced with "Two Minute Mysteries." Richard Timmins' "So Where's the Punch Line?" is a refreshing treatment of humor. The book compiles numerous anecdotes and jokes, but is unlike any other I've read in this genre: you have to figure out the punch line to each ( the punch lines are provided at the end of the book of course! ) Some were easy, some were difficult, and some truly stumped me. I found myself slapping my forehead more than once. But in each case I was entertained. This book brought on a sense of nostalgia, not only because of its resemblance to "Two Minute Mysteries," but also because it touched on issues and eras that I'd not remembered or thought about much. Insightful in the telling, you'll enjoy matching wits with the author. The book is so enjoyable and addicting that once you start, you'll have a hard time putting it down, and will probably want to go through it in one sitting. Be prepared for a page-turning "detective" of a good time. Well written and presented, with situations and characters to whom one can easily relate, the book reveals what it means to be human. Best of all, Igot exactly what I was expecting: the joy of solving puzzles, and, of course, some really good guffaws. Lift your glasses high for this on

Yes there is Anti-Matter, too much in fact, and there’s a little bit of it everywhere. Anti-Matter the opposite type of matter that we know and use every day. Whenever Anti-Matter comes into contact with the normal matter that is part of us all, it annihilates all probability of the continued path we’re on and sends us down an alternative path. I also believe that right now, we here on the Earth are traveling through a hugely unusual cloud of this stuff. How do I know that? Because, everything going on in our evolution is an ‘opposite’ reality. We should be enjoying the greatest brotherhood of mankind ever, with Love and Peace and prosperity being proclaimed everywhere. Instead, we’re killing each other in record numbers. Hate fills the media. Governments have all failed us. Discord and chaos rule us. And, it is my theory that we went off into this anti-matter induced, alternate universe when John Kennedy was assassinated and Lyndon Johnson became the President, who decided to go and slaughter millions of innocent people in Viet Nam and then Richard (Tricky Dick) Nixon became President and he expanded the war into Cambodia and neither of these men went to jail. This was the start of the Bizarro Universe for me. I noticed the moment we went down this evil path because the Beatles were pulling us all in the right direction, but the Gravity of these evil minds led us down the wrong path. There’s book about this theory, great Science Fiction that everyone must read. Get your copy today.

During the late 1950s and the 1960s, Vern Overbye and John Brauer joined with four other engineers of diverse backgrounds at A.O. Smith's corporate headquarters in Milwaukee to embark on an unprecedented and unanticipated path of innovation. Each had an advanced degree and, more importantly, each had an entrepreneurial spirit. With their forward-looking, optimistic manager at Smith's Data Systems Division, Robert Y. Bodine, they built a path-breaking business in the fledgling technology of finite element analysis that is still impacting the fortunes of the companies that became their customers. Together they helped transform a rarefied aerospace technology into a design tool now used to design in a staggering variety of applications and industries. "I will propose that Data Systems should be particularly bullish in adaptive creative technology-it simply pays, but, in fact, growth, not to say survival, depends on it." Robert Y. Why does fake news stick while the truth goes missing? Why do disproved urban legends persist? How do you keep letting newspapers and clickbait sites lure you in with their headlines? And why do you remember complicated stories but not complicated facts? Over ten years of study, Chip and Dan Heath have discovered how we latch on to information hooks. Packed full of case histories and incredible anecdotes, it shows: - how an Australian scientist convinced the world he'd discovered the cause of stomach ulcers by drinking a glass filled with bacteria - how a gifted sports reporter got people to watch a football match by showing them the outside of the stadium - how pitches like 'Jaws on a spaceship' (Alien) and 'Die Hard on a bus' (Speed) convince movie execs to invest gigantic sums even when they know nothing else about the project As entertaining as it is informative, this is a timely exploration of a fascinating human behaviour. At the same time, by demonstrating strategies like the 'Velcro Theory of Memory' and 'curiosity gaps', it offers superbly practical insights. Made to Stick uses cutting-edge insight to help you ensure that what you say is understood, remembered and, most importantly, acted upon.

The Complete Eh, Goondu! combines in one volume two of Singapore’s best-selling humour titles Eh, Goondu! and Lagi Goondu. Eh, Goondu published in 1982 was the first book on Singlish. It compiled in print a collection of local patois which combined English with vernacular dialects and languages to form what is now called Singlish. It was the first to spell words which were previously spoken and never written down. Eh, Goondu! sparked national debate among Ministers, academics and the public. Eventually, it was accepted that Singlish was part of the Singaporean way of life. Eh, Goondu also inspired and spawned many younger humour writers such as Colin Goh of “Coxford” fame. Locally-produced sitcoms and stand-up comedians also drew on these linguistic puns to reach out to the common man. Lagi Goondu! was the follow-up title with more patois

A unique and honest account of the author's childhood spent on a commune in rural Virginia. Nethers, as the commune came to be called, was the creation of Eugster's idealistic and headstrong mother, Carla. The narrative accurately depicts communal living in all its complexities. An array of colorful characters drifted into the commune, and Eugster writes sensitively about being a child in the midst of all of this. A fascinating memoir with many moments of warmth and humor. Eugster's narrative is also an important piece of American cultural history, and the history of efforts to create a utopian society, which never seem to turn out exactly as planned.

This series of HANDBOOKS OF LINGUISTICS AND COMMUNICATION SCIENCE is designed to illuminate a field which not only includes general linguistics and the study of linguistics as applied to specific languages, but also covers those more recent areas which have developed from the increasing body of research into the manifold forms of communicative action and interaction. For "classic" linguistics there appears to be a need for a review of the state of the art which will provide a reference base for the rapid advances in research undertaken from a variety of theoretical standpoints, while in the more recent branches of communication science the handbooks will give researchers both an verview and orientation. To attain these objectives, the series will aim for a standard comparable to that of the leading handbooks in other disciplines, and to this end will strive for comprehensiveness, theoretical explicitness, reliable documentation of data and findings, and up-to-date methodology. The editors, both of the series and of the individual volumes, and the individual contributors, are committed to this aim. The languages of publication are English, German, and French. The main aim of the series is to provide an appropriate account of the state of the art in the various areas of linguistics and communication science covered by each of the various handbooks; however no inflexible pre-set limits will be imposed on the scope of each volume. The series is open-ended, and can thus take account of further developments in the field. This conception, coupled with the necessity of allowing adequate time for each volume to be prepared with the necessary care, means that there is no set time-table for the publication of the whole series. Each volume will be a self-contained work, complete in itself. The order in which the handbooks are published does not imply any rank ordering, but is determined by the way in which the series is organized; the editor of the whole series enlist a competent editor for each individual volume. Once the principal editor for a volume has been found, he or she then has a completely free hand in the choice of co-editors and contributors. The editors plan each volume independently of the others, being governed only by general formal principles. The series editor only intervene where questions of delineation between individual volumes are concerned. It is felt that this (modus operandi) is best suited to achieving the objectives of the series, namely to give a competent account of the present state of knowledge and of the perception of the problems in the area covered by each volume.

Restoring Our Soul is a captivating story situated at the confluence of science, spirit and the world crisis of values. While incorporating a cultural critique, romance, and humor, the story centers on the search for the underlying causes of the worldwide degeneration of character, the discovery of those causes, and their ultimate resolution. The accidental detection by graduate student Michael Epps of anomalous magnetic fields in prehistoric hominid fossils leads to a new understanding of human nature. With little hope of success, billionaire technologist, J. Walter Harbison, assembles a multidisciplinary research group to assess whether the character crisis actually exists, determine its origins, and craft a solution. He receives crucial help from his spiritual teacher, Aziza Hamadani. Dr. Ruth Arvah, a world-class developer of advanced medical instrumentation, leads the research team. Through the measurement of naturally occurring magnetic fields around people and several unforeseen experimental results, the researchers discover a relationship between the human population explosion and the global atmospheric reservoir of spiritual energies. Tom Grandbush, a conservative radio talk show host, heaps ridicule on the research team, jeopardizing their credibility. They persevere despite personal setbacks, achieving an astonishing outcome for the world.
