The best propaganda is made by the best artists. Posters have to be sharp, attractive and to the point, as well as exploiting ancient prejudices using techniques that sway opinion. They are designed to be understood in the blink of an eye from a distance of at least six feet and, if they don't appeal directly to the emotions, they should immediately be torn up and thrown away. This book features propaganda posters and cartoons by some of the world's greatest artists, including portraits of Napoleon by Gillray and Ingrès, Edward VII by Jean Veber, the drooling gorilla of German militarism by H R Hopps, Uncle Sam by James Montgomery Flagg, Hitler in several guises, and so much more. Within these pages, you'll find extraordinary art with a job to do. And from these ingenious images, you'll gain unique insight into the cultures that produced them.

Constructed over a broad swath of time, these essays address some of the most significant events in world history, shining shafts of brilliant light on abhorrent matters long unspeakable.

Seeking Truth in A Country of Lies is a collection of lyrical and critical essays offering keen insight into a very wide range of topics: from cogent analyses related to work, the digital revolution, propaganda, the attacks of September 11, 2001, the CIA, government assassinations and wars, to spellbinding reflections on poetry, nature, time, and even silence. Following in the path of such earlier celebrated essayists as Thoreau and John Berger, Curtin's critique is at once political, social, cultural, and deeply personal. These essays, constructed over a broad swath of time encompasses some of the most significant events in world history. They shine shafts of brilliant light on abhorrent matters that the ruling elite would prefer to keep buried, often reaching clear and radical conclusions. Reading Curtin is akin to taking a walk in the woods with a good friend who gradually unrolls a stunning life-changing revelation, where, having started out with a particular destination in mind, one is then lured ever onwards into diverging paths another after another, until, as the compass finally turns one gently back toward home, that sanctuary no longer looks the same. A restless wonderment has been aroused, dots are connected, and a comprehensive picture emerges. Some essays are highly intellectual and structured; some, straightforwardly political; others are meanderings that seek to encompass essential truths that emerge in the telling. Here's but a taste: "The morning star welcomed me. The sun rose majesti-cally. And across my window three early flies jitterbug in the first light. The whole earth is conspiring to explode with life and seeking our assent." "Most suicides die of natural causes, slowly and in silence." "Rub Lucifer, the Prince of Darkness, the right way and the CIA emerges into the light." "a few slices from the bread of truth is essential to conceal the lies.." and his acerbic twist updating Robert Frost to contemporary context: "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I took the one to the mall." The power of Curtin's essays lies in their capacity to evoke in the reader the exhilaration and passion for truth that the writer felt when writing them, that the writer hoped would be carried into the world as rebellion against propaganda, war, and injustice. They contain multitudes of trajectories, not least a celebration of the beauty of life and the hope that a better world is possible.

Fake news has found success in campaigns designed to attack the truth and reframe it to fit a specific agenda. As a result, combating fake news and standing up for the truth has become a staple of most mainstream television news outlets over the past three years (from 2016-2019). Fake news is not a new problem. It is modern-day propaganda made up of 21st-century media - tweets, headlines, and viral videos-created and distributed with the sole intent of causing disruption and confusion by selecting the points of interest deemed most favorable to the person or outlet making the claims. However, fake news and its offshoots, misinformation, and disinformation are symptoms of a bigger problem - the overall attack on science-backed truth. The mainstream media's responsibility is to stand up for factual truth, and they must take a more active role in defending the truth despite any notions of bias, politics or public outcry. This thesis will look at the media's role in defending the truth as the public is bombarded with too much information combined with the science of propaganda, which both manipulates the version of the truth the public sees as well as weakens their ability to be critical thinkers.

TREASURE is the true story of how the iconic fable The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho psychically predicted the future, and what would happen to Karen Williams in real life. This was at a time when Karen had never heard of Coelho’s famous book. It is a story about the passion for a dream, and how this passion revealed to Karen the language of signs and coincidences which the spiritual realm uses to speak to each of us. Living in Andalusia in southern Spain in the 1990s, Karen dreams of finding and living from her soul. One night, after visiting her favourite ruin, she has a dream in which she is reborn and with this her soul quest begins. Just as in Coelho’s The Alchemist it takes her to Tarifa and Tangiers, and then through a metaphorical desert, finally ending at a place of pyramids as she searches for her treasure. But, this is only just the beginning of a truly supernatural odyssey which goes on for another 18 years. In that time Karen dedicates her whole being to the slow, and sometimes incredibly painful unraveling of the real meaning of the allegory known to millions as The Alchemist. What she discovers is far deeper and more transcendental than she ever imagined and touches the lives of all of us who now stand at the beginning of a new millennium hoping for a new world and a new dawn.

In this book, author Dean T. Hartwell: (1) finishes off his thoughts about the so-called planes and passengers of 9/11, a topic he has written on in the two editions of Planes without Passengers (2) presents his case of a hoax involving 9/11 planes and passengers in an organized, methodical fashion and uses other hoaxes as historical context (3) says that knowing the truth may well be able to help us re-shape society so that leaders have no reason to lie to us! This book won't change the world. That's OK. The world isn't going to change because someone says someone is lying! But maybe some people will. From the book: .".".I am releasing this book to finish off my theory as to the events of 9/11, not just about planes and passengers but other issues as well. I also show how the public has accepted the lies told for the past fifty years as a way to provide comfort for themselves. I do not predict the majority of people in this nation will demand justice for what happened and I do believe instead that history will record the lies like it has every other one. So you may read this and get frustrated hearing more lies from our leaders. Before you lose your mind from the bombardment of propaganda, please realize that you go up against the strongest institutions in our society, who fear their own existence threatened if more and more of you refuse to believe the lies they tell you. Please realize the reasons behind the lies have more to do with status and power than anything else..."

This boldly original book traces the evolution of documentary film and photography as they migrated onto digital platforms during the first decades of the twenty-first century. Kris Fallon examines the emergence of several key media forms—social networking and crowdsourcing, video games and virtual environments, big data and data visualization—and demonstrates the formative influence of political conflict and the documentary film tradition on their evolution and cultural integration. Focusing on particular moments of political rupture, Fallon argues that the ideological rifts of the period inspired the adoption and adaptation of newly available technologies to encourage social mobilization and political action, a function performed for much of the previous century by independent documentary film. Positioning documentary film and digital media side by side in the political sphere, Fallon asserts that “truth” now lies in a new set of media forms and discursive practices that implicitly shape the documentation of everything from widespread cultural spectacles like wars and presidential elections to more invisible or isolated phenomena like the Abu Ghraib torture scandal or the “fake news” debates of 2016.
